Commitments Overview
The Commitments page provides an overview of your organization’s coverage, Savings Plans, and Reserved Instances. It also includes recommendations for optimizing commitments. The page is divided into the following sections: Overview, Savings Plans, Reservations, and Recommendations. At the top of the page, a date picker is available. It applies to all commitment pages and updates the displayed data based on the selected range.
Overview Page
The Overview section summarizes usage and spend for both on-demand and covered resources. Key metrics include:
- Real Cost – The total cost of all resources eligible for commitments, including Reserved Instance fees and Savings Plan recurring fees, for the selected date range.
- Potential Savings – The total estimated savings based on commitment recommendations (Reserved Instances and Savings Plans).
- Net Savings – The total savings achieved from commitments in the selected date range. This is calculated by comparing the cost of usage covered by commitments to the equivalent on-demand cost, with separate breakdowns for Reserved Instances and Savings Plans.
- Effective Savings Rate (ESR) – The percentage of net savings compared to the on-demand cost of covered usage.
Formula:
(Net Savings ÷ On-Demand Cost of Covered Usage) × 100
Coverage Section
This section provides details on how much of your usage is covered by commitments:
- Coverage % – The percentage of your organization’s usage covered by commitments in the selected date range.
- Coverage $ – The total dollar value of covered usage, with breakdowns for Reserved Instances and Savings Plans.
- **Not Covered **– The on-demand spend for resources not covered by commitments.
A table of eligible resource types is displayed below these metrics.
Commitments Section
This section tracks how your existing commitments are being utilized:
- Utilization % – The percentage of purchased commitments that were actually used during the selected date range.
- Commitments – The total amount paid for commitments, with breakdowns for Reserved Instances and Savings Plans.
- Utilization $ – The dollar value of utilized commitments, with breakdowns for Reserved Instances and Savings Plans.
A utilization table for Savings Plans and Reserved Instances is displayed under this section.
Recommendations
At the bottom of the page, you can find recommendation tables for both Reserved Instances and Savings Plans. These tables highlight opportunities to increase coverage and optimize costs through additional or modified commitments.
